1. Camel’s Back Park

Camel’s Back Park is located in the north end of the Boise city, right at the edge of the Boise foothills. It is quite a popular place and has variety of different things to do. This park is 11-acres in total, and has tennis courts, playground equipment and an outdoor gym for the fitness freaks.



You can also enjoy a nice picnic with your family over the weekends and your kids can also have fun in the open-play areas here in this park. Another famous thing about this park is its access to the foothills and sprawling Ridge to Rivers trail system.

2. Old Idaho Penitentiary State Historic Site

This historic place was built back in 1870 with hand-cut sandstone. Later on, it reverted its status to a museum and state historic site. Old Idaho Penitentiary is also called “Old Pen” and it hosts more than 30 historical structures and majority of these now feature educational exhibits. You can tour the facility to see the jail cells, Gallows and the famous Solitary Confinement area.

3. Bogus Basin Mountain Recreation Area

Bogus Basin Mountain Recreation Area is located just 20 miles downtown Boise, and it is a famous recreational spot year-round. During the winter season, its hills become a popular ski area. Mostly locals love skiing here. Moreover, there are a number of chairlifts along with four conveyor lifts that access 2600 acres of skiable terrain. During the scorching summer, it becomes a nice hiking and downhill mountain biking trail system.

4. State Capitol

State Capitol building’s construction started back in 1905 and was completed in 1920. This place surely is worth visiting. The entire building has been built using locally sourced sandstone along with marble from Georgia, Alaska, Vermont and Italy. There is a dome on top of the building, where there is a five-foot-high statue of a golden eagle. When you visit Boise, definitely take the time to tour the Capitol.

5. Basque Museum & Cultural Center

Basque Museum & Cultural Center has been preserving and promoting the Basque heritage history. There is a vast collection of various artifacts and other exhibits. As a whole this place is one of the few remaining examples of Basque boarding house, historic Cyrus Jacobs-Uberuaga house, permanent collection at the museum which includes traditional music, replica sheep wagon and various other historical archives worth capturing in your camera.

6. Boise River Greenbelt

Love water and lush greenery? You shouldn’t miss out Boise River Greenbelt, which is located along the Boise River and it links a whopping 850 acres of natural area and parks. This river runs through the city center, while offering variety of cycling and walking paths along with many other wildlife-viewing opportunities.

7. Discovery Center Idaho

Discovery Center Idaho is a great place for science lovers and wonderers. The place covers several topics like sound, motion, electricity, hearing and perception. Discovery Center also hosts several events and programming like summer camps, Young Dicoverers club and adult nights.

8. Idaho Anne Frank Human Rights Memorial

Idaho Anne Frank Human Rights Memorial is located in Boise Cultural District, and contains more than 60 quotes from different leaders and human right figures throughout the history. Surely, this would a great learning experience for anyone visiting this place. You will also find a Bronze statue of Anne Frank, which is assembled in the Attic of the Memorial. There is a beautiful garden, featuring beautiful trees and flowers from different parts of the world. This garden also has benches and stainless-steel statues of human rights leaders.

9. Idaho Botanical Garden

The famous Idaho Botanical Garden is located at where there was once the #2 Yard of the Idaho State Penitentiary. Over the years, it has established a lot and has continued to grow since its inception in 1984. There are 14 specialty gardens that vary from contemporary English Garden to Meditative Garden. The landscaped spaces are also a unique focus.

10. Kathryn Albertson Park

Albertson Park is located on an area of 41-acres, located in the southwest of downtown Boise. Most part of this park is wetland habitat is filled with wildlife and a variety of beautiful birds. There are also walking paths, decorative fountain and signs next to the beautifully paved walkways that provide you information about the surrounding flora and fauna.

11. World Center For Birds of Prey

Falcons, eagles, condors and several other birds are found here. You can also take a picture holding one of them on your wrist. These birds are usually kept here for on-site breeding and sometimes for observational research. There is Velma Morrison Interpretive Center as well, which hosts visitors and provides them with a chance to meet all the feathered residents of this place.
